Roundtable: Digital Transformation

Digital Transformation

On the 11th of December Wipro hosted a group of indysource members at Oud Paardenburg in Oudekerk a/d Amstel to discuss several Digital Transformation cases based on Wipro’s expertise and experience build up in Wipro Digital and Designit.

As companies move to digital, Service Providers are setting up dedicated units to support the new requirements that clients encounter in their Digital Transformation journey.

After an informal welcome, Wipro introduced Wipro Digital and Designit and their view on Digital Transformation. They described how Wipro adapts in a fast-changing world.

Wipro is moving to Digital. Designit is not just an acquired company diversifying Wipro’s Services. Instead, Wipro is transforming their ‘old’ organization into an organization that is able to serve all their clients with their digital initiatives.

Buying centres are the business and/or the CIO. The experience is that Digitalization initiatives are not initiated by traditional buying centres, like the procurement or IT department. As digital transformation initiatives are focused on transforming the business and less on supporting the business, most digital transformation initiatives arise from within the business or from the business savvy CIO/CDO. This changes the sales approach of projects as well.

Deals are done in a different model. Digital initiatives are not about changing or improving existing services, but about designing a new service or product. This also means that traditional SLAs cannot easily be applied. Cooperation between the business and the IT digitalization initiatives is even more important than the cooperation between the IT department and the business as digital transformation deeply impacts the business.

Digital Transformation takes guts.  Digital transformation requires a different mindset compared to traditional IT Services, as the destination is unknown. For some projects, it might be uncertain whether they will succeed and if they succeed whether they will be profitable. This doesn’t mean that there is no business case for digital transformation projects, the risks of failure might be higher, but the potential benefits are so as well.

It was interesting to hear about the views of Wipro on digital transformation and have the indysource members participate in the discussion and be inspired by the client cases of the Wipro.
